It usually starts as a favour. A colleague pastes a question into Microsoft Copilot. The answer looks almost right. They turn to you. Congratulations. You now own Copilot for the whole company, with no extra hours and no extra pay.

Copilot is a helper that lives inside Microsoft 365. It can read mail, meetings, and files you already keep in Teams and SharePoint. That is useful. It is not a magician. If the real answer lives in a paper binder or in an old ERP screen, Copilot will guess. Sometimes the guess sounds very sure of itself.

Give it a job, not a personality.

The plants we sit with do not need a robot that writes the purchase order. They need a helper that drafts the coding, points to the procedure, and then stops. A person still clicks “post”. We call that a human gate. It is not a lack of ambition. It is how you sleep at night.
